Today's freebie guest author is the beautiful, talented and saucy Lauren Dane!

A few years ago, Lauren Dane decided to quit her job and stay home with her brand new second child. As a result, she had lots of conversations in a sing-song voice but no real outlet for adult thoughts and words. While on bed-rest with her pregnancy with the tiny monster, Lauren had plenty of down time so her husband brought home a second hand laptop and she decided to “give that writing thing a serious go.”

Lauren had no idea how fabulously wonderful it would feel to actually make a go of her writing and she’s thankful every day people actually want to read what she writes! She’s well aware of her good fortune and loves every moment of it, even when she has to edit and put Barbie’s dresses back on over and over again. She still hasn’t managed to figure out how to shut out the sound of the Backyardigans so she can write a love scene, though.

Visit Lauren on the web at www.laurendane.com.
E-mail laurendane@laurendane.com.
Blog www.laurendane.com/blog.

Lauren's latest release is LAID BARE:

Unexpected Desire…

It’s been ten years since clean-cut, sexy-as-hell police officer Todd Keenan had a white-hot fling with Erin Brown, the provocative, wild rocker chick next door. Their power exchange in the bedroom got under his skin. But love wasn’t in the cards just yet…

Now, life has thrown the pair back together. But picking up where they left off is tough, in light of a painful event from Erin’s past. As Todd struggles to earn her trust, their relationship takes an unexpected and exciting turn when Todd’s best friend, Ben, ends up in their bed—and all three are quite satisfied in this relationship without a name. As the passion they share transforms Erin, will it be enough to help her face the evil she thought she had left behind?

What people are saying about LAID BARE:

"In a word, this book is amazing. All three characters are magnetic and thoroughly realistic. They’re expertly woven into a roller-coaster story that will have you crying one moment, aroused the next and laughing with glee at each triumphant step along the way. With menage and some mild M/M scenes, this is Dane’s best story yet!"
--RT Magazine, 4 1/2 stars and a Top Pick!

“Every once in a great while, a book comes along that moves and surprises you in all the best ways. LAID BARE is one of those books for me. I was blown away by Dane’s brilliant rendering of this emotionally-charged, deeply erotic tale of second chances and redemption. I can’t say it enough: I loved this book!”
--Sylvia Day, nationally bestselling author of Eve of Darkness

Please help me welcome Lauren to the blog!

1) What kind of books do you love to read and how do those stories impact your own writing?
I read across many genres! I love science fiction and futuristics, mysteries, thrillers, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, biography – essentially I love voices. If an author has a voice I love, I’ll follow her around, LOL.

Everything I read has an impact on me as a writer I think. Partly because each time I read a book I learn things about my own style and voice, I learn about different ways to tell a story. Reading, just like watching movies or traveling, is great creative input. All these different voices, different stories, the lives of that author and her characters – all these things add to the sum of human experience that as a writer I can tap into.

2) What are you working on presently? What about upcoming releases?
I’m working on INSATIABLE, it’s the next futuristic in the Federation Chronicles series for Berkley Heat, set for July 2010 release. It’s Daniel’s book and it takes readers into a Known Universes on the brink of war.

August 4, I’ve got LAID BARE, a contemporary ménage erotic romance (whew what a mouthful!) from Berkley Heat. It’s my first contemporary with Heat and I hope folks enjoy it! In October I’ve got TRINITY, a paranormal romance from Samhain and then in January it’s COMING UNDONE, the sequel to LAID BARE.

3) What’s the best compliment you ever got on your writing or book(s)?
When the books sell or I make a list it’s always awesome. When I get a new contract it’s always awesome.

But it’s the comments from readers I’m so very touched by. First of all, people have really busy lives so when they take the time from their day to find an address for me and write to me about one of my books, that is a great compliment. I’ve been fortunate enough to have received many wonderful compliments, but some of my favorites are comments about how they love the way I create family or a community in my books.

4) What’s your writing schedule like?
This has been a crazy year, but the entire time I’ve been writing, I’ve had small children so I haven’t had the daytime really to write. For years I’ve written in the evening, from about eight to midnight. I write every day and take off two weeks in the summer. That isn’t going to happen this summer, LOL, but my baby is off to full day kindergarten so I’ll have the daytime hours to write!

Essentially, like I said, I write every day for about three and a half to four hours. I try to get in about 3K words daily, some days it’s more, some days it’s less.

5) If you could be one character from any book you’re read or written who would it be and why?
Wow, that’s a hard one. I’d say I’d like to be one of the Chase wives, because hello, hot husband, great family, wonderful small town – what more could you ask for?

Lauren has graciously donated a copy of LAID BARE to one lucky commenter. To be entered into the drawing, we're turning one question back around on you, the readers. Simply tell us...

What's one character from any book YOU'VE read that you would like to be and why?

Technically, I wouldn't want anyone's life but my own (our life is what we make it), but for the sake of this contest, here goes:
I could identify with the character of Nicole Keyes from Susan Mallery's Sweet Spot. Running a family bakery sounds okay to me! There are worse jobs in life! Plus having a "deliciously sexy former NHL player" interested in you isn't bad either! Of course there's lots of not-so-great stuff happening too in this story (what story would be complete without it), but all in all, I could identify with someone feeling responsible for everyone in her family yet reaping and appreciating the rewards with a loved one.

Hi :)
Thanks for having the incredible Lauren here today. And thank you Lauren for sharing with us. I'm glad you gave writing a go.
:)
If I could be a character, I think I'd be Sir Richard Francis Burton in the Riverworld books. Immortality without the vampireness and every great person from throughout history to hang with. Can you imagine sitting at a table with Mark Twain, William Shakespeare, Tolkein and Asimov?
(just to name a few).
:)
Wishing you and yours all the best,

And as to the question, as silly as this may sound, the first time I read Twilight by Stephenie Meyer I really wanted to be Bella! Seriously, I love that whole series, its amazing!

I wouldn't mind being Stephanie Plum for a few days. Ranger and Joe would be the reason!

I would probably choose Jessie Matthew from Riding Temptation by Jaci Burton because she's kickass & I'm a wimpy tennis player. Please don't enter me as I won Laid Bare already. Just want to pimp Lauren's books which are amazing as well as Elisabeth's. Just finished Stolen Fury & started Lauren's Giving Chase & bought Stolen Heat today. 2 awesome writers in one place WOW!!

Any of the heroines from Linda Howard's books.

They are all strong women with quirky senses of humor. And they always get their man.

Geez, great question. HARD Question though.
I think I'd go with Stephanie Plum cause I would love to hang us with Lula. Okay okay, Ranger and Morelli may have something to do with it as well.

Second choice would be Sera Ayers because there is alot of love between Sera, Ash and Brandt. Not just the love but Sera is a kick ass cool woman.

I would choose Claire from Outlander Series...why? Because she gets Jamie for her husband. What woman wouldn't want a big tough loving highlander in her bed every night?? Plus, I think going back in time would be a kick.

Hm...character I want to be...

Any of Kresley Cole's heroines...they're always possessing of a biting wit and are lucky enough to snare a total alpha male! Or JR Ward's heroines: love the BDB. Or maybe Eve Dallas...who wouldn't want their very own personal Roarke? :)

I would want to Riley Jensen from Keri Arthur's series. She is a kick ass heroine who lives in Australia. I have always wanted to go there.

Razlover's Book Blog has stolen my answer! I would love to be Eve Dallas from J.D. Robb's IN DEATH series. She is AMAZING! I love that she's not aware of the beauty there is to both her body and soul because that is what makes her so beautiful. She's smart, she can kick anyone's a$$ while taking names, she is loyal and loves with all her heart though she doesn't think so. And she comes home to the most GORGEOUS, SEXY, HOT husband with the most adoreable Irish accent whose name is Roarke. That alone would make me want to be her.

I'd probably most want to be Josie from Eloisa James' Pleasure for Pleasure. I relate to her the most out of any heroine I've read I think. Her insecurites about being plump hit close to home and the way she overcomes them is inspiring.

Holly Bardwell from Colters Woman. Why? Because she has 3 men totally in love with her. Of course, this is pure fantasy. Dream on.

Anita Blake -- I mean, Jean-Claude, yummmm. I'm only through about book 7 or 8 though, and I understand she comes to have other lovers... Plus, she is feisty and strong and independent.

Elena from Bitten by Kelley Armstrong -- again, a kick ass woman with an awesome lover.

Claire from the Outlander series -- not only because she gets Jamie, but because she is so unflappable!

Hmmm, sensing a pattern here?

Congrats to both of you on your upcoming releases! And thanks for the contest!

I'm going to go with Hermione Granger...she's extremely smart, caring and an amazing wizard. She has two wonderful best friends in Ron and Harry, plus she's only a teenager so she still has the best years of her life ahead of her- I'm feeling a little old today, LOL

I don't know who I would like to be. I read so many books that all have such strong characters. In general it would have to be a strong female character - with a hunky love interest.

I love the cover to Laid Bare.

While I'm pretty happy being myself, wouldn't mind spending a little time as Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry. A "real-life" fairy princess who's obligated to bed a gaggle of sensual, gorgeous, centuries old sidhe warriors? Seriously!

I would love to be Sookie Stackhouse. First, being psychic would be great to help me be a big winner on the World Poker Tour. Second, there's Eric, Bill, Alcide, Sam, etc, etc. wanting to be your boyfriend. Yeah, like that's a horrible dilemma to have. LOL!

Oh this is a tough question! I was just reading a contemp by Sandra Hill SO INTO YOU and there is one central character that is a very old woman but I adore her! I don't think I would like to be her but would love her for my grandma! I just thought I'd mention that because this woman hasn't left my mind since I read it!

I'd so love to be Cael from Susan Kearney's PENDRAGON series. Cael is a High Priestess and just reading her and the strength she faced each day from the cruel of others, she didn't let it interfere with the healing she gave to others! And she put her life in risk so many times for others.
