The Handout Queen
That's me. The Handout Queen.
I presented tonight at my local RWA meeting. The topic was online critiquing. We had a good turn out, and I think (hope) everyone had a good time and learned something valuable. Attendees received handouts on how to set up and use Word to make writing easier, and comma handouts and descriptive word-lists from uber-English teacher CP. They also got to hear all about my wonderful critique partners....how we met and how they put up with me day after day.
It was good. And it kinda made me miss my teaching days.
Kinda. ;)

I could use that hand out. I know a lot about word, but sometimes it just does things that baffle me. Like why does it soemtimes have a line for a page break instead of an actual space? And why when I am trying to format the bloody thing so the Chapter breaks coem out right, does the rest of them all move? Enquiring minds wanna know.

When you get a line between pages instead of a space, move your cursor over the line and you should see two small arrows pointing at each other. Click and it should insert the space again. It's just a viewing tool.
As for page breaks, I'm going to guess that you have hard returns in there instead of page breaks (ctrl-enter). To fix, when you finish a chapter, don't hard return to start the next page. Put in a page break (ctrl-enter) after the last sentence and it will pop you to a new page. Then space down 1/3 way to start your next chapter. It shouldn't mess up your pages at that point.
Eli- Great job, now if I could only remember how we did it all! LOL
